The Holy Spirit talks, and I give him time.
The things I wrote was the way I feel.
At that particular time, it was all for real.
My first poem was about he had nothing to do,
Kids in Joliet prison, and they didnt have a clue.
Life should be about trying to do better.
I started out with Ruthie from the first day I met her.
I went to Africa, and it was supposed to be a thrill,
But the poverty I saw, not in books, it was all for real.
A couple of my poems came with a beat.
I rapped for RL Manaway, and he couldnt stay in his seat.
Ive written poems at funerals and really felt alone.
Love ones and friends, I looked around and they were gone.
Some are a joke just to see you smile.
To see people happy, Ill walk a mile.
Others, about my youth, and theres quite a few.
Im sure you will agree thats my point of view.
All my writings, some people say theyre fine,
The things the Holy Spirit says, whats on my mind.

Autoren-Porträt von August Lastrappe
His mother, Doris, nicknamed him Bubber. He was born in Houston, Texas, in 1942 but raised in Conroe, Texas, where he finished high school. In the earlier part of his adulthood, he spent quite a few years in Los Angeles, California, until his mother decided to move the Chicago, Illinois, and he soon followed in 1966, and this would be the place where his life truly began. August met his wife, Ruthie Malone, and they were married in 1968. He began working at the Jolliet Youth Center in Jolliet, Illinois, where he wrote his first poem, titled "He Had Nothing to Do," in 1974. This was the start of his creative flow. In 1978, he and his wife moved to Seattle, Washington, where he was blessed by God to raise his children. He united with the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert L. Manaway Sr., where he learned much more on how to trust in God and study his word daily.
In 2006, he and his family moved to Spring, Texas, uniting with the New Destiny Praise and Worship Center under the leadership of Pastor Ethan Ogletree Sr. (an extremely powerful teacher).
The best part of his life is his wife, Ruthie; his children, August P., Lisa L., Terry L., Doris L., August L. III; his grandchildren; and his sisters, Pauline Barnes and Rita Dunson.
