After more than 20 years in residential childcare I thought it was time to write a book about it. Not another text book or how somebody else's ideas on how to do it, and I've not set out to write an autobiography, although by its very nature I have written about a big part of my life. The title, I feel says it all, in terms of what I set out to achieve and hopefully have. It is perhaps something that every residential worker will be able to relate too. However, I also hope that a wider audience will find it an interesting read, yet doubtless to some, it will be a shocking and scary account of social care practice. The Children and the professionals I have written about are real people, and these events took place between 1988 and 2013. That being said, these are my own opinions and assessments of events, and to that end, it is fair to say that, all assessments are a personal concept, based upon knowledge, beliefs and value systems.
