Benjamin Schmeiser es Profesor Asociado de la lingüística hispánica en el Departamento de Lenguas, Literaturas, y Culturas en la Universidad Estatal de Illinois, EE. UU. Completó sus estudios de doctorado en la lingüística hispánica, con una especialización en la fonética y fonología en la Universidad de California, Davis en 2006. Sus investigaciones y enseñanza se enfocan en el español, con un interés en las áreas de fonética, fonología, historia de la lengua, y dialectología. Ha enseñado, realizado trabajo de campo, presentado, o publicado sus investigaciones en los EE. UU., Brasil, Canadá, España, Finlandia, Grecia, Guatemala, Inglaterra, Japón, Polonia, y Portugal.
