My story is about a young ten year old who decided to go for a stroll into his local forest one Autumn morning. The wind starts blowing but becomes too strong for him to bear, he crawls inside a fallen tree trunk then falls asleep. He wakes up and begins walking along a path and discovers that the forest is dark and lifeless except for the trees. The trees have faces and can talk. They tell Marley that they have been cursed by the forest witch who still walks through the forest. She is not the normal looking witch that Marley expected but a figure of beauty.
She tells Marley, the young adventurer, for the curse to be reversed he must retrieve' The Map Stone' and bring back to the forest 'The Red Leaf of Ortom'. She tells him that there are obstacles in the way that he must to overcome.
Marley overcomes the obstacles and returns back to the forest with the 'Map Stone' and 'The Red leaf of Ortom'. The witch lifts the curse, just as his adventure finishes the wind starts blowing and he struggles standing up, he crawls back into the trunk, he then falls asleep. When he wakes he finds that the forest is back to normal trees are green, birds are singing and the sun is shining. Marley returns home, there is a slight twist to the end of his adventure
My other occupation outside college is that I am a Foster Carer with my wife Jeanne who is a carer full time. We have both been Fostering since October 2008, caring for children between the ages of 0-6 years.
I believe that children can have a great imagination, they can live in a fairy tale world and everything is make-believe they can pretend whatever they want to be cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, doctors and nurses and of course playing at being mummy and daddy.
I was inspired to write' Marley the Adventurer' after a walk in the local park with Jeanne and the three boy who were in our care at the time, they had very little experience /interest in the outdoors and so get their attention I suggested that they should find different types of leaves, so the fun adventure developed. All three of them were running around pretended to be super heroes, getting super powers from touching leaves.
From watching the boys at play and listening to what they were saying gave me an idea which encouraged me to turn their game into story.
I began writing the story in October 2015 and after twelve months of adding, revising and bringing new characters in the story I finally completed it.
I hope you enjoy reading the story as much as I have enjoyed writing the story.............
