When Song dynasty was founded its literature was underdeveloped, its outlook cramped and crude and its style narrow and biased. But Ouyang Xiu's works breathed new air into the literary scene. The grand scale of the Classical Prose Movement, the development of poetry that could rival that of Tang dynasty as well as the rise of Ci-poem as a representative genre of the age ensued. Literary creation was particularly active in Jiangxi area: Yan Shu's Ci poems blossomed in Northern Song literary world; Zeng Gong and Wang Anshi became Ouyang Xiu's proteges, and shone on the stage; Huang Tingjian established his poetic school in Jiangxi. After the mass migration to South China Zhou Yigong became the poet laureate with his talent and exquisite skills; Yang Wanli was also a top player with fresh and vivid style; Jiang Kui, a hermit-like figure, was known for his ethereal and elegant flair. At the same time, family literature in Jiangxi also flourished: the "e;three Liu"e; of Mozhuang, "e;three Kong"e; of Qingjiang, the Wang family in Luling, the Zeng family in Nanfeng and the "e;four Hong"e; in Boyang, etc., scattered across China. Literature in Jiangxi reached its peak in Song dynasty.
