A significant aspect of the collection is the inclusion of the perspectives of the participants in research studies. The people studied are seen as partners in the creation of knowledge, without whose active involvement the studies would be inadequate. With a view to demystifying research methods and engaging the reader, the narrative uses the tropes from the world of Indian theatre of the traditional Sutradhaar (Master of Ceremonies) and Vidushak (Jester). This strategy infuses a lighter note and serves to round-off each essay succinctly.

Her research has been in the area of the Girl Child, Cognitive Development in early childhood and Socialization. She edited a book for SAGE, along with two colleagues, on the theme of qualitative research methods. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Barefoot College, Tilonia, Volontariat in Pondicherry and Bala Mandir in Chennai. She worked with the Bernard van Leer Foundation, helping assess and monitor child care work in SEWA, Ahmedabad. In the course of assisting the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Tamil Nadu, she made two short documentaries on the innovative methods (ABL and ALM) in Tamil Nadu schools.
Nandita Chaudhary is presently working as Reader at the Department of Human Development and Childhood Studies at Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi. She has a Ph.D. from University of Delhi and has been a Fulbright scholar at the Department of Psychology, Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts. She has written several journal articles and chapters in books, and is
Neerja Sharma is Reader at the Department of Human Development and Childhood Studies, Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi. She obtained her Ph.D. and earlier degrees at the same institution, and has continued to teach, research and publish in the areas of childhood disability, adolescence, education and research methods. Apart from publishing several research papers and book chapters, she has authored three books: Understanding Adolescence, Identity of the Adolescent Girl and Evaluating Children in Primary Education. She is an advisor to Rajkumari Amrit Kaur (RAK) Child Study Centre (ECCE), Pratham (elementary education), Snehi (mental health), Karuna Vihar (disability) and Springdales School (inclusion).
