The poems in Scraped Knees tell of a journey from memories of childhood in the poem Step Into to thoughts about death in Frozen in Time, Missing, and Just Beyond. Five poems speak to the feelings and thoughts one has when told that one has cancer. These poems are Revelation, Reflections, Hope, and CA, and Statistics.
Oyster Stew and Super Bowl were written to celebrate the time spent with my mother when she was on hospice. We watched the New England Patriots win their first Super Bowl and even she cheered at the end. That time will always be a most cherished memory.
Some of the poems in Scraped Knees speak of faith and of learning to quiet the mind during Friends meetings for worship. Winter Darkness, Tears, and Human Touch look at the darker side of life while other poems, Solitude and Journey celebrate what life can be.
And then theres Journeying Companions and Heres To, poems that speak to the friendship and comfort one may find in the time spent with four legged friends.
My poems attempt to look at and picture in ones eye the many sides and moments in a lifetime of journeying. They look at the joyful and peace-filled days and walk through the reality of the more difficult happenings that one may face.

Autoren-Porträt von Joanne L. Bond
I was born in Freeport, New York in 1942, lived briefly in Virginia, lived in Indiana for many years, and currently am living in Illinois. I graduated from Williamsburg High School, Ball State University first with a BS and then with an MA. I taught high school, was on the Adjunct Faculty in the English department at IU East, worked for a bank for 15 years and when the bank downsized followed in my daughter’s footsteps and became a nurse. Currently, I work as a telephone triage nurse in a clinic. Prior to this position, I worked in a detox unit on the night shift.I am a four time cancer survivor, a mother, grandmother, and a great grandmother. I live with my significant other and two special companions Micay and Malea and one outdoor fairly well socialized feline named Emma. Oh, by the way, Micay and Malea are cats.
I love reading, music of all sorts from classical to rock, traveling, spur of the moment visits, good conversation, laughter, friends, and of course life. Just being above the grass.
My significant other and I are sports fans and enjoy everything from baseball (he’s a Yankee’s fan) to football to golf.
This is my first time having a book published, but have had a few poems published by the International Society of Poets through Poetry.com.
