Nilmani Phookan has been influenced by the French symbolist, and by the Anglo-American imagist poets. Phookans poetry is rooted in Assamese culture and replete with images such as river, mountain, fire, water, house, flowers and trees. His poems reach the eye, the ear, and the heart of the readers. Phookan says, Poetry is the voice of humanity. Whenever one tries to listen, each person can hear in the quietness of his own mind the flowing cadence of dawn and dusk, of truth and beauty".
The themes of Hiren Bhattacharyyas poems are very general like nature, love, sorrow, death, protest and patriotism. His poems are admired for their simplicity, spontaneity, lyricality, and naturalness of style and diction. Poetry and Hiren Bhattacharyya are inseparable. In his last poem, he writes I want to die/ if possible, at this very moment/ poetry has taken my sixty years/in return, I have become rich in words

Les biographies des poètes Nilmani Phookan
Nilmani Phookan, né 1933 à Dergaon, Assam, est un poète assamais moderne de renom et un crtique d’art. Il a enseigné l’histoire à Arya Vidyapith Collège à Guwahati (1964 à 1992). Il a publié treize recueils de poésie. Il est crédité de la traduction d’œuvres de poètes japonais et chinois en assamais. Il a été influencé par les poètes symbolistes français, et par les poètes imaginistes et les formalistes de l’Ouest. Ses poèmes ont été traduit en anglais sous le titre “Selected Poems of Nilmani Phookan” (Tr. Krishna Dulal Barua, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, 2007). Il a reçu Le Prix Bishnu Prasad Rabha du Asom Sahitya Sabha (1985). Il a remporté le prix littéraire de la Sahitya Akademi en 1981 pour son anthologie de poésie Kavita. Il a reçu une bourse décernée par la Sahitya Akademi en 2002, et la Padma Shri par le gouvernement indien en 1990.
Hiren Bhattacharyya
Hiren Bhattacharyya, né le 28 juillet 1932 à Jorhat, et mort le 4 juillet 2012 à Guwahati, Assam, est un des poètes emblématiques du romantisme assamais. Il a publié douze recueils de poésie. Les thèmes de sa poésie sont très généraux comme la nature, l’amour, la douleur, la mort, la protéstation, et le patriotisme. Ses poèmes sont simple, mais au-delà de la simplicité il y a une profonde sensibilité qui touche le sentiment des gens de façon très directe. Ses poèmes ont été traduits en anglais sous les titres “Ancient Gongs” (Tr. Pradip Acharya, Beaver Books, Guwahati, 1985) et “Autumn and Other Landscapes” (Tr. Pradip Acharya, Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata, 2007). Il a traduit soi-même ses poèmes en bengali sous le titre “Sasyer Math Manus O Anyanya Kavita” (Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata, 2002). Il a reçu Le Prix Bishnu Prasad Rabha du Asom Sahitya Sabha (1985), et le Prix Nehru de l’Union sovietique (1987) pour l’anthologie de poèmes Sugandhi Pakhila (Papillons Parfumés). Il a remporté le Prix littéraire de la Sahitya Akademi en 1992 pour son anthologie Soisar Pathar

Binod Kumar Gogoi
Binod Kumar Gogoi, est né en 1950. Il a obtenu une maîtrise en chimie de l’université de Dibrugarh en 1975 et un doctorat en chimie de l’université de Gauhati, Assam en 1983. Il a rejoint Regional Research Laboratory, Jorhat, Assam en 1978, d’où il a pris sa retraite en tant que Chef scientifique en 2010. Maintenant il se consacre à la traduction de poètes assamais et de poètes français.

Binod Kumar Gogoi
