He reads an Appalachian Trail journal of a young man named Strider who found the ideal woman to love and, from encounters with various women along the way, learned to make a commitment to her. Now out of shape and unhappy, disillusioned and cynical, Walt wants to be left alone with his thoughts. As he walks a thousand miles, he has various experiences with hikers who alternately bother him and enlighten him. Thoughtfully plunging into life-changing experiences, he discovers in the mountains the surprising difference between the woman he wanted to love and the woman he needs to love.
Autoren-Porträt von Michael Herrick
Michael Herrick is a retired teacher and teacher trainer living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His master's degrees in English and history have given him a life-long passion for reading imaginative literature and historical experience. He has published several short stories and lots of academic writing. Having completed the Appalachian Trail and Vermont's Long Trail, he has walked a thousand miles across England and is exploring France's Grand Randonnées and Europe's long-distance paths. Consequently, he has spent many days of his life walking in mountains and many years keeping a journal of his experiences to mine for stories.
