Arthur R. Ashe, Jr. (1943-1993). Born in Richmond, Virginia, Ashe was the winner of singles tennis championships at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, and the World Cup Team Finals. The social activist, author, and scholar lived in New York City with his wife, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, and their daughter.
