August 1951 in Qaraghandy, Kasachstan; 9. Mai 2004 in Grosny) rief 1994 als Mufti von Tschetschenien zum Dschihad gegen Moskau auf, wechselte dann die Seiten, wurde 2000 Chef der russischen Verwaltungsbehörde in Tschetschenien und am 5. Oktober 2003 in einer umstrittenen Wahl zum Präsidenten der Republik Tschetschenien gewählt. Am 9. Mai 2004 wurde er bei einem Bombenanschlag in einem Stadion in der Hauptstadt Grosny getötet. Seit Mai 2007 ist sein Sohn Ramsan Achmatowitsch Kadyrow Präsident Tschetscheniens.
