Kurichyarmala Forest situated inside the in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve is one of the centres of diversity with a high percentage of endemism. It is one of the Heritage Sites in Western Ghats identified by UNESCO. This area is listed under ecologically fringed land (EFL) in Kasthurirangan and Madav Gadgil committee reports. Flood and landslides happened in 2018-19, caused much havoc in biodiversity to the Kuricharmala region. It is expected that the present biodiversity enumeration would bring out the importance of conservation priorities to be implemented to safeguard this highly fragile ecological region.
