Autoren-Porträt von George Crile
George Crile, Jahrgang 1945, war einer der bekanntesten US-Journalisten. Nach seinem Studium arbeitete er als Pentagon-Korrespondent für renommierte Zeitungen und als Redakteur für die Washington Post, die New York Times und Harpers Magazine. Seit 1976 stand Crile, zunächst als Auslandskorrespondent, später als Produzent, im Dienst der CBS. Einen Namen machte er sich vor allem durch seine preisgekrönten Dokumentationen aus Krisengebieten weltweit, die in der legendären Sendung 60 Minutes gezeigt wurden. Berühmt wurde er durch eine Reportage, für die er sich als einziger ausländischer Journalist zu Zeiten des Kalten Krieges Zugang zu den nuklearen Waffenkammern der Sowjetunion verschaffen konnte. George Crile starb 2006 an Krebs, er hinterlässt eine Frau und vier Töchter.
