Professor Dr. Rudolf Leopold gehört zu den bedeutendsten Sammlerpersönlichkeiten Europas. Mit außerordentlicher Kennerschaft gelang es ihm, eine einzigartige Sammlung österreichischer Kunst vom 18. Jahrhundert bis heute - mit dem ersten Viertel des 20. Jahrhunderts als Schwerpunkt - zusammenzutragen. Bereits mit 25 Jahren erkannte der Sammler die überragende Bedeutung Egon Schieles, so dass die Werke dieses Malers den Kern seiner Sammlung bilden. Im September 2001 wurde in Wien das Leopold-Museum unter der Leitung von Rudolf Leopold eröffnet.Elisabeth Leopold und Rudolf Leopold bauten die weltbekannte Schiele-Sammlung auf, die seit 2001 im Leopold-Museum in Wien zu sehen ist. Der Bau wurde eigens für diesen Zweck errichtet.
