This volume contains the results of a joint European integrated experimental/numerical research effort to improve the understanding of unsteady turbine blade wake characteristics. The focal point of this research is the investigation of large-scale deterministic structures dominating the wake, known as von Kármán vortices, and their dynamic Effect on the flow over the rear blade surface. Large-scale models and the use of a vast array of advanced experimental techniques allow a detailed description of the time varying flow patterns. The interpretation of the experimental results is facilitated through comparison with time-accurate numerical calculations. The applicability and accuracy of large eddy simulations for compressible wake flows is investigated.
