The term folklore is composed of two words, namely "folk" and "lore"; whereas the word 'folk' refers to people, the word 'lore' indicates 'wisdom'. Thus, folklore can be defined as people's wisdom or beliefs associated with the common people of a country or a speech community. The present work aims to examine folk stories in the region of Errachidia (the Sahrawi society) from a sociolinguistic point of view. This will certainly make it possible to see how people in this small community use language in their artistic creations - folk stories in particular, to communicate within their speech community and how story tellers try to explain, through these artistic creations, questions that ordinary people cannot explain and how they bring stories into social relevance.

Maliki, Moulay SadikDr. Moulay Sadik Maliki was born in Errachidia, Morocco. He has been teaching English and linguistics at the School of Art & Humanities, Ain Chock, Hassan II Univ. of Casablanca since 1988. He's author of many articles on different topics ranging from cross-cultural communication, culture and reading to linguistic diversity in Marocco.
