Autonomous system with features of ECG characteristic extraction and heart rate measurement from such electrical response using powerful and advance methodologies are of ultimate interest. VLSI implementation of a portable Holter monitor design is presented in this work considering parallelism, distributed algorithm and re-configurable computing to allocate the DSP implementations. Lacks of bulk production opportunities have forced us to implement it in SmartFushion FPGA prototype board using Verilog micro-coding. A comparative study has been carried out to show the performance, accuracy and cost-effectiveness of the proposed hardware. This could open up a passage for the researchers to afford in lessen the production cost, for physicians and end users to draw attention in their cardiac physiology and to advocate a personal monitoring system.
