James Ball ist vielfach ausgezeichneter Datenjournalist des "Guardian". Er hatte an mehreren datengetriebenen Untersuchungen der Zeitung großen Anteil, etwa an dem Projekt "Reading the Riots", der Berichterstattung über die von WikiLeaks enthüllten Geheimdokumente aus Guantánamo. Bevor er zum "Guardian" kam, arbeitete er bei Channel 4 Dispatches und beim Bureau of Investigative Journalism. Als Freiberufler unterstützte er WikiLeaks bei der Veröffentlichung von 250 000 US-Botschaftsdepeschen. Außerdem lehrt James interaktiven und investigativen Journalismus an der City University in London. Er lebt und arbeitet im Zentrum der Stadt.
