Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) according to the World Health Organization (WHO) is significant public health problem worldwide and is predicted to surpass many diseases as the major cause of death and either mortality or hospitalization. According to data available it indicate that nearly 60% of TBIs are due to road traffic injuries (RTAs) and about 20-30% are due to falls, 10% due to violence, and another 10% due to combination of work place and sports related injuries in all parts of the world. India has the second largest world population and over a quarter of the world's trauma deaths occur in India. Data from the national crime record bureau report an increase of 63% in accident related deaths over the period 2004-2013. The total volume of TBI in India is unknown, but estimates suggest that there are more than a million trauma related deaths in India per year, of which 50% are related to TB.I.
