Professor im Institut für Sozialpolitik an der Universität Ostfinnlands Campus Kuopio. 2010-2011 Dekan der Fakultät für Soziologie. 2010 Mitglied der Europäischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und Künste. Lehrtätigkeit an mehreren deutschen und osteuropäischen Universitäten und Hochschulen. Engagierter Forscher unter anderem in den Fachbereichen Genossenschaftswesen, Wohlstandsökonomie, Gesundheitsökonomie. Seine Publikationen umfassen eine breite Skala dieser Thematik.
