The important seed-borne fungal diseases caused by Fusarium species and its molecular identification is clearly explained. Fusarium is a seed/soil inhabitant which overwinters between crops in plant debris as mycelium and in its three spore forms. It can remain in the soil for long periods of time. Healthy plants can become infected through wounds, or at the point of formation of lateral roots.
