In 1990, a young painter, Jon J Muth, continued his rise in the comic book industry by adapting the story of M into a four-issue comic book miniseries. Muth's photorealistic illustrations paved the way for the acceptance of painted comics, influencing a generation of artists who followed him. Long out of print, these four issues are collected together for the first time as a hardcover graphic novel. Packaged with a bonus DVD of the original film, the book also includes a new afterword by Muth.

Fritz Lang was an Austrian-American film director, screenwriter and film producer. Working first in Berlin during the silent-film era of the 1920s and later in Hollywood, Lang explored the darker side of human nature through his cinema. Thea Von Harbou was married to director Fritz Lang and wrote the screenplay for M as well as his most celebrated film Metropolis. In 1932, a year before Adolf Hitler came to power, she joined the Nazi Party, which presumably led to her divorce from Lang, who left Germany in 1934 for Paris. Harbou died in Berlin in 1954.
