Prof. Dr. med. Volker Diehl, absolvierte eine Ausbildung in Innerer Medizin, klinischer Virologie und Hämato-Onkologie am Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, am Karolinska Institut in Stockholm und an der Med. Hochschule Hannover. Bis 1983 arbeitet er am Aufbau der Arbeitsgruppe für internistische Onkologie an der Med. Hochschule Hannover, seit 1983 ist er Ordinarius für Innere Medizin in Köln. Seine Arbeits- und Forschungsschwerpunkte sind: Innere Medizin, Hämatologie, Onkologie, Infektionskrankheiten und Immunologie. Seit 1994 ist er Mitglied im Editorial Board des NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE, 1995- 2001 war er Vorsitzender der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Hämatologie und Onkologie (DGHO),1999 war er Vorsitzender der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Innere Medizin (DGIM). Rolf Ackermann wurde 1952 in Duisburg, Deutschland geboren und war als Journalist und Korrespondent bei zahlreichen namhaften Zeitungen (Die Zeit, FAZ) und im Rundfunk (WDR, NDR). Langjährige Aufenthalte in Ost- und Westafrika haben ihn zu einem versierten Afrika-Kenner gemacht. Heute ist Ackermann ausschließlich als Schriftsteller tätig und lebt hauptsächlich in Wien und Namibia.
