Controlling mesophase transition temperatures has always been an important issue in liquid crystal materials research. Varying the length of alkyl chain has often been used as an easy and systematic way by which to understand trends in phase transition temperatures.we reported a mesogenic homologous series of azoesters containing two naphthalene nuclei and studied the effect of the naphthalene moiety on mesomorphic. We have also reported a mesogenic homologous series of Schiff base cinnamates comprising a naphthalene moiety and investigated the effect of an ethylene linking group (cinnamoyl linkage) and naphthalene moiety on the mesomorphic properties of such compounds.
