The present study shows various types of neurons and their morphology and projections in different regions of the cerebral cortex of Hemidactylus flaviviridis and deduced homology of various regions of the cerebral cortex with avian and mammalian cerebral cortex. This study describes the various nuclear groups present in the cerebral hemisphere. This study describes seven types of neurons in the medial cortex; six types in the dorsomedial cortex; four types in dorsal cortex; four types in lateral cortex. The neurons of dorsomedial cortex are highly spinous and the spine density over the dendritic branches increases as the distance from the soma increases. The soma size of the neurons of dorsomedial cortex is larger than the neurons of medial cortex. The connection of the neurons of dorsomedial cortex are exclusively intra cortical whereas the main source of the extra cortical efferent originates from the medial cortex. The lateral cortex serves as an interface between the olfactory bulb and other cortical areas. These regions in animals work as the gateway through which the bidirectional information passes.
Autoren-Porträt von Ram Chandra Maurya
Maurya, Ram ChandraI have done my M.Sc. from University of Allahabad, qualified JRF and joined Prof. U. C. Srivastava lab to complete my D.Phil. Then I joined as Assistant Professor at Department of Zoology, Kumaun University, S.S.J. Campus, Almora, Uttarakhand. My lab is interested to understand the role of external stimuli/stress in neuronal remodeling.
