Autoren-Porträt von Mitsugu Saotome
Mitsugu Saotome was born in Harbin, China. He won the Naoki Prize for his 1968 Kyojin no ori (The Cage of the Traveler). From an early age he published his period fiction and historical tales in peer-published journals, building a name in the process. As he built a body of work in the period fiction field, he came to focus on Japan's Warring States period and the transition from the pre-modern Tokugawa to the modern Meiji (1868-1912) era. Saotome has a special affection for Aizu, where his grandfather was from, and has set novels like Okeiand Aizu shikon (The Warrior Spirit of Aizu) in this region. Rezension zu „Okei “
"With incredible historical detail from a still-mysterious era and an almost poetic text, Saotome's novel should prove to be as popular here as it already is in Japan." --"Booklist"
