Edward Morgan Forster (1897-1970), einer der bedeutendsten englischen Prosaisten des 20. Jahrhunderts und längst ein Klassiker der englischen Literatur, erlangte mit "Auf der Suche nach Indien", dem wohl berühmtesten Indien-Roman des 20. Jahrhunderts, Weltruhm. Zu seinem Werk gehören fünf weitere Romane, Erzählungen und Essays. Nach längeren Aufenthalten in Indien lebte er von 1927 bis zu seinem Tod in Cambridge.
