Philosophy, Science, and Theology of Mission in the 19th and 20th Centuries

Contents: This encyclopedia of mission studies deals with the names, the concepts, the methods, and the branches of missiology in the 19th and 20th century.

The Author: Jan A. B. Jongeneel was born in Kockengen (Netherlands) in 1938. He studied Law, Theology and Philosophy at the University of Utrecht, Groningen, Göttingen (Germany) and Leiden. He earned the Drs. Jur. and Dr. Theol. from Utrecht University, 1963 and Leiden University, 1971 respectively. In 1971 he was ordained in the Netherlands Reformed Church and became a missionary in Indonesia (1971-1980). From 1980-1992 he served as a pastor in Leiden. In 1982 he was appointed to the department of church history in the Faculty of Theology at Utrecht University where he specialized in missions. Since 1986 he is Professor of Mission Studies at Utrecht University.
