Positive Organizational Psychology

This book falls within the broad framework of the positive psychology movement that aimed to shift the focus in psychology from dysfunctional behaviors and mental illness which were the traditional focus to the development of positive human capacities and strengths. Although still concerned with the many factors of traditional organizational theory, positive organizational behavior argued that positive behaviors required equal research attention to historical focus on organizational dysfunction. At the subjective level the new emphasis was on positive experiences including variables related to wellbeing and a state of happiness in the present as well as optimistic expectations about the future. Positive psychology was interested in traits like perseverance at the individual level and the factors that related to better organizational citizenship reflected in responsibility and altruistic attitude.In particular this book comprises 12 chapters that reflect many areas of positive organizational behavior from flourishing at work and managing emotions for better outcomes to important chapters on moral identity and flourishing organizations. Unfortunately organizationalbehavior also has a dark side that is reflected in chapters on employee's psychopathology, toxic leadership and leader's psychopathology. The book is therefore a representation of both traditional issues combined with the renewed focus on positive organizational behavior.
