What sets this book apart from other fairytale gift books is that the stories have been translated from the original German and French versions - they are not re-tellings - and they have therefore retained the remarkably vivid and sometimes strange quality that characterises these classic tales. Beautifully translated by Anthea Bell, and embellished with arresting, almost surreal illustrations by acclaimed German illustrator Henriette Sauvant.
Autoren-Porträt von Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm
Henriette Sauvant, geb. 1967, wuchs in Deutschland und Dänemark auf. Sie studierte Illustration an der Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften in Hamburg. Dort und an privaten Kunstakademien hatte sie später Lehraufträge für das Fach Illustration. Seit 1992 arbeitet Henriette Sauvant als freiberufliche Illustratorin für Kinder- und Erwachsenenbücherund Werbeagenturen. Ihre Bücher wurden mehrfach ausgezeichnet, ihre Bilder an diversen Ausstellungen gezeigt.
