Gerard de Groot is Professor of Modern History at the University of St Andrews, where he has taught in 1985. An American by birth, de Groot came to the UK in 1980. He is the author of several highly acclaimed books on the history of the twentieth century, including The Bomb: A Life, which won the RUSI Westminster Medal, awarded in Britain to the best book published in the English language on a war or military topic and The Sixties Unplugged. He is a regular contributor to a wide range of newpapers and journals. He lives in Scotland with his family.
