The most compelling and complete account of "The Byrds" ever published, this book draws on hundreds of lost and previously undiscovered sources to create a gripping chronicle of the band's life and times.
From 1965, when they had a worldwide smash-hit with 'Mr. Tambourine Man', to 1973, when they played their final concert, "The Byrds" were one of music's most influential bands. Having virtually invented folk-rock, they went on to pioneer psychedelia with their ground-breaking single 'Eight Miles High', and then country-rock, prompted by shortlived member Gram Parsons, and were even the first rock band to use synthesizers. Their influence can still be heard today - from the chiming Rickenbackers and harmonies of R.E.M. and Tom Petty through to just about every alt country and Americana act on the scene.
So "You Want to be a Rock'n'Roll Star" collates eye-witness accounts, press reports and concer reviews, set lists, tour dates and gig locations, record releases and reviews, recording studio data and comtemporary interviews, and is illustrated with a rare collection of period photographs and print memorabilia. All this is woven into an absorging day-by-day narrative that tells the story of "The Byrds" in a way that will surprise and delight even their most dedicated fans.

Klappentext zu „So You Want to Be a Rock'n' Roll Star: The Byrds Day-By-Day 1965-1973 “
In "So You Want to Be a Rock'n'Roll Star" (ein Titel der Byrds) aus der Edition Olms analysiert er fast "Day by Day" die Entwicklung der amerikanischen Rockgruppe.
Noch 1965 erschien das zweite Album "Turn! Turn!
