Located in the rural areas outside of bustling Buenos Aires, the commercial establishments-butcheries, bakeries, bars, repair shops, garages, dry cleaners-depicted in this collection by photographer Guillermo Srodek-Hart appear steeped in history, and are packed with details dripping with color. These photographs, shot with a large-format camera, are imbued with a narrative power not unlike an Edward Hopper painting. Details such as bottles, hides, groceries and hubcaps are heightened by Srodek-Hart's masterful technique and composition. Throughout the collection hangs an air of abandonment, of time passing, or perhaps stopping. Whether or not that is true, Srodek-Hart has memorialized a culture worlds apart from the city that lies a short distance away.
Autoren-Porträt von Guillermo Srodek-Hart
Guillermo Srodek-Hart, 1977 in Buenos Aires geboren, studierte am Mass College of Art in Boston sowie an der School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University in Boston. Seine Arbeiten bekamen zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und wurden vielfach ausgestellt, unter anderem auf der letzten Biennale 2013 in Venedig. Seine Fotografien sind Teil verschiedener privater und öffentlicher Sammlungen, darunter das Santa Barbara Museum of Art, das North Dakota Museum of Art und das Attleboro Museum of Art. Er wird vertreten von der Kuckei + Kuckei Galerie in Berlin, der jdc fine art in San Diego und der Schneider Gallery in Chicago. Er lebt in Buenos Aires, Argentinien.
