Guus Kuijer, geboren 1942 in Amsterdam, war zunächst Lehrer und ist seit 1973 freier Schriftsteller. Vielfache - auch internationale - Auszeichnungen für seine Kinder- und Jugendbücher, darunter 1982 der Deutsche Jugenliteraturpries für "Erzähl' mir von Oma" sowie der Holländische Staatspreis für sein Gesamtwerk. Im Jahr wurde er mit dem Astrid Lindgren Gedächtnispreis geehrt.
