The report in this study was to identify types of behavioural patterns that grade 10 learners (from the age of 15 years to 18 years) manifested by learners during mathematics instruction in Johannesburg area in South Africa. The study also reported on the impact that this behaviour might have on the mathematics performance of learners from the perceptions of Grade 10 learners, their teachers and the Heads of mathematics department at the school. The study may be of significance to academic personnel who design strategies for mathematics curriculum and classroom management. The report in this study may also be used as window for the parents or other interest parties who may be interested to know the learning atmosphere inside Grade 10 mathematics classrooms.
