Sarah Blake, geb. 1961, entstammt der namhaften Taft-Familie in New York. Sie hat an der Yale University und der New York University Literaturwissenschaften studiert und über viktorianische Literatur promoviert. Ausgangspunkt für ihren Roman waren die Liebesbriefe ihrer Urgroßmutter sowie das Sommerhaus ihrer alteingesessenen Familie an der Küste von Maine. Zur Zeit lebt Sarah Blake mit ihrem Ehemann in Evanston, Illinois.
