The author argues that the ideas stressed in McKay's General Conference addresses during this period were at least partially responsible for a more favorable public image being achieved for this heretofore rather unpopular, indigenous American Christian church.

The Author: Richard N. Armstrong is an assistant professor and graduate coordinator in the Elliott School of Communication, at The Wichita State University. Upon receiving his Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University in Interpersonal and Public Communication, he taught at the State University of New York-College at Brockport and New Mexico State University. He is co-author of Speech Communication in a Democratic Society.
