Starting with the pioneering work of Maxwell, several authors have developed theoretical models for the effective thermal conductivity of nanofluids but they failed to explain the temperature dependence and particle size effects etc. Therefore, in this book we proposed Brownian motion have an effect in producing accelerated fluid mixing and particle clustering that creates path of lower thermal resistance and thereby enhance thermal transport in nanofluids. We also developed an empirical correlation for nanofluids by considering the Brownian motion of the nanoparticles. The effects of Temperature, volume fraction and nanoparticle size are also brought out in graphical manner. Finally, the effect of the nanofluids on compact heat exchanger is analyzed by using -NTU rating numerical method on turbo-charged diesel engine of type TBD 232V-12 cross flow compact heat exchanger radiator with unmixed fluids consisting of 644 tubes made of brass and 346 continuous fins made of copper. Comparative study of Al2O3 + water nanofluids as coolant with conventional coolants is carried out.
