Michael Walzer, geboren 1936 in New York, ist einer der wichtigsten zeitgenössischen politischen Denker und Gesellschaftstheoretiker. In seinem umfangreichen Werk widmet er sich immer wieder den Fragen von Nationalismus und Ethnizität, Pluralität und Gerechtigkeit sowie des Erhalts des demokratischen Gemeinwesens. Seit 1980 lehrt er am Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. Neben seinen vielfältigen akademischen Tätigkeiten ist er Herausgeber der Zeitschrift Dissent.
