The monograph consists of two chapters introducing the results of research on the history of the Ukrainian press and current issues of modern journalism. The first chapter deals with the rise and development of the press of 19th-20th centuries on the western and eastern regions. The typological features of periodicals are analyzed, their discursive practices are characterized, in particular the journalism studies' discourse aimed to developing knowledge about journalism in general and Ukrainian one in particular. The information value of press and archival documents as sources of unique data is examined, especially to the journalists' biographies.The second chapter covers the concept of book journalism as a part of cultural journalism, taking into account the main features of its functioning in the media and cultural society, analyzes newspapers and magazines published in the official and minority languages, which are protected din accordance with the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, considers the main standards for presenting the results of sociological research in the media, outlines the main challenges for journalists in covering the epidemiological situation in the country.
