Thomas Hylland Eriksen, 1962 geboren und in Nøtterøy/Vestfold in Norwegen aufgewachsen, ist Professor fur Sozialanthropologie an der Universitat Oslo und Verfasser zahlreicher Sachbucher zu anthoropologischen und kulturwissenschaftlichen Themen. Sein besonderes Interesse gilt Fragen der Identitat. Er versteht es, mit Humor, Sachverstandnis und Innovations- freude komplexe Themen einem allgemeinen Publikum nahezubringen und hat dafur unter anderem 2000 den Preis fur gute Forschungsvermittlung der Universitat Oslo erhalten. 2011 verlieh ihm die Universitat Stockholm die Ehrendoktorwurde.
