Klappentext zu „Where Memories Lie “
Gemma James receives a plea for help from her friend and neighbor, Erika Rosenthal, who she first met when investigating another case (A Finer End). Until now, Erika has never shared much of her past, other than telling Gemma that she and her husband, David, came to London before the war as refugees from the emerging Nazi regime in Germany. Now Erika tells Gemma that shes learned that some of her late husbands missing possessions have come up for auction. The post-war years in London were hard, and David grew more and more bitter, isolating himself in the Reading Room at the British Museum. In 1951 his body was found washed up on the banks of the Thames, his death assumed a suicide. When Erika cleaned out Davids things after his death, however, she discovered that a priceless gem was missing. Gemma must find out who stole it to have a chance of finding who murdered Erikas husband. As the case becomes official, Duncan Kincaid, his sergeant, Doug Cullen, and Sergeant Maura Bell begin to investigate the murder, while Gemma digs further into the life of David Rosenthal. A second present-day murder kicks the investigation into high gear, and as Gemma and Duncan come closer to the truth, Gemma becomes more and more determined to extract justice for Erika.
