Xavier François Lesage (October 25, 1885 in Moret-sur-Loing 1969 in Gisors) was a French horse rider who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1932 Summer Olympics. In 1924 he and his horse Plumard won the bronze medal in the individual dressage competition. Eight years later he and his horse Taine won the gold medal in the individual dressage as well as in the team dressage. Equestrianism (From Latin equester, equestr-, horseman, horse) refers to the skill of riding or driving horses. This broad description includes both use of horses for practical, working purposes as well as recreational activities and competitive sports. Horses are trained and ridden for practical working purposes such as in police work or for controlling herd animals on a ranch.
