A capsule would be able to understand the gut and analyze gastrointestinal disorders, according to a report in the medical journal Trends in Biotechnology. Tested on animals, it would cause no adverse effects and would have a real economic advantage.

Indeed, "the gut gas analysis could become a valuable tool for the assessment of overall health," says Professor Kourosh Kalantarzadeh the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), principal investigator on the project.
