Douglas Cazaux Sackman is James Dolliver NEHDistinguished Teaching Professor of History at the University ofPuget Sound. His publications include Wild Men: Ishi and Kroeberin the Wilderness of Modern America (2010) and OrangeEmpire: California and the Fruits of Eden (2005), winner of the2006 Martin Ridge Award. He is currently working on a new bookentitled American Panorama: Rediscovering the History ofthe American West.
