A Girl as a Vessel is the third in a series of memoirs by Betsy Nomad.
The soldier, the drifter, and the predator. Mamas, watch your girls!
A memoir for women who understand the risks of being an adolescent female. How I survived to adulthood is anyone's guess. This isn't a story about absentee alcoholic parents so much as it is about what happened to me while they were busy with their own fractured lives. One boy loved me, but he had to go off to be a soldier. One boy loved me, but he was destined to drift. One man violated me, and I hope he rots. And then I turned fifteen.
I may or may not be nearing the end of my life. But before I go, I hope to share my adventures in loving, living, spending, traveling, acquiring, discarding, mothering and militarizing. I can almost guarantee that if you follow my memoirs, you're going to love me, hate me, like me or dislike me. Maybe you'll just be conflicted. Of course, that covers the gamut of reactions, so it's likely that I'll be right!
I am a fiction writer, but my stories have always been inspired by real-life people and places. I think that is probably true for most authors.
Betsy Nomad is a pseudonym, and every name in these memoirs will be a pseudonym. Memoirs are all well and fine, but other lives are affected by our stories…by my stories. It is not my intent to hurt anyone, so I think it best I change the names and some of the locations.
Welcome aboard!
About the Author: The name Betsy Nomad is a pseudonym. I am real, the memoirs are real, but I have changed my name and those of most people involved to protect their privacy. Thanks to wanderlust and the military, I have lived in at least twelve states and one territory and been a legal resident of several more as a full-time RVer. I've visited about forty-nine states plus three more U.S. territories, lived in four countries and been to more than nineteen countries.
I've been a juvenile delinquent, a runaway, a teenage drug user, a smoker, an intolerant nonsmoker, a high-school dropout with a master's degree in psychology, a lover, a woman in the military, an Air Force veteran, an unwed mother, a military retiree, a divorcee, a National Park Service employee, a licensed mental health counselor for combat veterans, a cashier, a school bus driver, an animal lover, a federal Civil Service employee, an in-patient resident on a psychiatric ward, a traveler, a corporate oil brat, a full-time RVer, a walker, a terrible golfer, an adequate bowler, a slow jogger, a fish owner, a mother of a drug addict and felon, a grandmother of four including identical twin boys, a feminist, a meat eater, a vegetarian, a vegan, a cranky old lady and a young naïve lonely girl.
My stories are no more important or less important than yours. They're just different. I hope you enjoy them.
