Produktinformationen zu „After Biafra (ePub)“
From 1967 to 1970, Nigeria fought a war - the Nigeria-Biafra war. And in the middle of that war, a former Managing Director of the World Bank, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was 14 years old. She expended much of her time with her mother cooking; while her father joined the army as a brigadier - the Biafran army. They were on the Biafran side.
Her parents lost everything, all their savings, because they had to run from the Nigerian side to the Biafran side. They were Igbos. And then the Igbos were like the Jews in Hitler's Germany.
Nevertheless, Ms Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala had her kernel cracked for her by the benevolent spirits. She became the first female and black candidate to contest for the presidency of the World Bank Group.
But this story is not about Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. It's about a family that didn't survive an ethnic-cleansing.
Reading this book, sinking back in your soft armchair, you will say to yourself: perhaps it will not amuse me. And after you have read the story of great misfortunes you will no doubt dine well, blaming the author for your own insensitivity, accusing him of wild exaggeration and flights of fancy. But rest assured: this tragedy is not a fiction. All is true.
