One of the increasing linguistic practices in writing economic newspaper articles and reports is the use of metaphors from the source domain of war. In fact, there is no clear-cut answer as to why this is practiced, but apparently the two domains have some elements in common even though they are different realms of knowledge. This paper is based on data collected from economic newspaper articles which areremarkably abundant in war metaphors that describe the economic situation in general and the last economic crisis in specific and its consequences. Various reasons have been detected for mapping the domain of war onto the domain of economics. Among them is the intention to impress and attract the audience to read the article, to raise awareness of a certain economic event or phenomenon, or for prosodic purposes.
