Earl and his little brother Lou hid in an oven to escape the massacre that wiped out all of his family and subsequently eluded capture by subsisting for months in a dense forest, passed as Gentiles and eventually joined a Russian army hospital. They made their way to the United States, where Earl became an ultra successful real estate developer and co-founded a Holocaust memorial.
