Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Biology - Micro- and Molecular Biology, , course: Bachelor of Science in Fisheries, language: English, abstract: This text deals with the antimicrobial resistance in fish as a result of its use in aquaculture, the development and spread of this resistance and the risk associated with the antimicrobial resistant in fish culture.
Antimicrobial resistance arises due to the overuse of antimicrobial drugs, most prominently antibiotics and others like antivirals, antifungals, etc. An antibiotic is a substance produced by one microorganism that selectively inhibits the growth of another microorganism and there are different types of it. Its use in aquaculture is accompanied by various factors and increasing use of it has several impacts.
As of now, the aquaculture sector is growing rapidly and currently, it accounts for more than half of the fish used for human consumption. Demand for food has been increased since the population of the world is growing rapidly so, dependent on aquaculture to provide a safe, reliable, and economic supply of aquatic food has also increased. This increase in production has been accompanied by the intensive use of antibiotics in the aquaculture industry which is leading to the production of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens.

The author, Saurav Lamichhane, was born in 1998 in Nepal. He was enrolled in B.Sc. Fisheries program in the year 2015 at Agriculture and Forestry University, Chitwan.
He had traveled to many places related to aquaculture and fisheries, farm, and offices. He had participated in "Leadership, Personality development, Motivational program, Data analysis, Climate change simulation programs."
During his four years of an undergraduate program, he had involved in LEE (Learning Entrepreneurial Experience) topic was 'CARP AND MONO-SEX NILE TILAPIA POLYCULTURE IN A CEMENTED TANK'. and was uipped with field-level experience in fisheries and aquaculture. He keeps his keen interest in research and development in breeding and aquaculture production.
Household Survey of the "School Pond program" for the assessment of family nutrition and periodic growth check of fish in "Periphyton enhance aquaculture" and "Carp-Tilapia-Sahar Polyculture" in 2017 and 2018 respectively. After completion, I had been involved in the research project 4R Micro Project in Nepal, Canada Fertilizer, where 4R technology is aplied in the model farm where I worked as a Research Assistant. I had to manage trials, data collection, and report writing. After that, I got myself engaged in forwarding Nepal KOICA-IRDN Project where the Vegetable Production Training and Demonstration Farm Operation was being carried out. Where baseline survey using KOBO TOOLBOX, constructing soil profile, and survey maps using ARC GIS.
Currently, I am working in Fisheries Research Station, Begnas, Nepal where research my responsibilities is from laboratory to field. The field included monitoring of ponds, monthly of three major lakes (Begnas, Phewa, and Rupa) along with other few lakes, where I have to carry out the water quality monitoring like temperature, DO, pH, chlorophyll-a, plankton availability, and identification, etc.
On-going Research work on research station includes 'Advanced breeding on indigenous

and exotic ornamental fish, development of pear cultivation, exploration of culture potential of Sahar and Gardi, development of cost-effective feed, genetic improvement of carps' stocks for quality fish seed production.'
